Even more, it responds to practical shortcuts like ‘Go Home’. With Southern Africa and Europe street maps, safety camera alerts and hands-free telephone calls via integrated Bluetooth, nüvi 860 is designed to make driving safer and easier. Safer handsfree operation

The nüvi 860 provides truly ‘touch-free’ operation. With an innovative ‘push-to-talk’ steering wheel remote, it can be safely operated through spoken word. Simply click the remote control and speak the menu option to go straight to the desired function. You won’t even have to remember a set of commands – nüvi 860 understands everyday speech and shortcut phrases for points of interest commands like ‘find nearest cash point’, popular functions such as ‘play MP3’ and to return to the main screen – all handsfree from start to finish.

Touch-free phone calls

With built-in Bluetooth® wireless technology, microphone and speaker, nüvi 860 is set up for truly handsfree mobile phone calls. Sync up your compatible Bluetooth phone and manage your calls through the nüvi 860. By keeping both hands on the wheel and your eyes on the road, you can give the road your full attention and avoid breaking the law. Find and dial phone numbers in your mobile address book or nuvi’s points of interest database on command. nüvi also has an integral FM transmitter, which broadcasts your phone calls, turn-by-turn directions, street names, MP3s and audio books through your car stereo for a safer drive, in total control.



Enhanced navigation

The nüvi 860 is packed with enhanced navigation tools. Park position recall makes sure you can always find your car by automatically marking the place you take the 860 off the windscreen, as a point on the map. When you want to return to your car, just ask nüvi to find your ‘Last Position’ and it guides you right back.

Redefine sightseeing with photo navigation. Plan trips to landmarks and attractions simply and easily before you set off. Just choose and save location-tagged photographs from millions of Google Panoramio pictures (via Garmin Connect) in a wish-list of places to visit. Then, at your leisure, select a photo destination for turn-by-turn directions to the scene.

nüvi 860’s route-planning features help you make sense of a longer or more complicated journey. You can save up to 10 routes, specify via points and preview simulated turns. nüvi automatically sorts multiple destinations into the most efficient route for errands, deliveries or sales calls. Wherever you go, nüvi builds up a Track Log of up to 10,000 points, which can be downloaded and viewed through Google Earth.


Simple and safety-minded

If a trip doesn’t go to plan, just tap the car icon or say "Where Am I?" and the nüvi 860 gives you details of your precise location – with co-ordinates – and the nearest address and road junction. Also shown are hospitals, police and petrol stations in the vicinity.

The nüvi 860 is supplied with Garmap Africa Series 2008 Southern Africa Streetmaps. This includes the routable tar and gravel road network detail for South Africa, Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Mozambique, Swaziland, Lesotho, Zambia and Malawi. Coverage includes more than 675 000 Km of routable road data across these 9 countries, street level detail for than 1700 cities, towns & villages in South Africa, more than 150 000 points of interest, routable roads and tracks for 55 game reserves and parks in South Africa, Botswana, Zambia and Malawi.

With preloaded City Navigator® NT European street maps and up to millions of points of interest, nüvi 860 helps you navigate in 33 countries across the Continent.

Simply touch the colour screen or activate speech recognition and speak your commands for turn-by-turn spoken directions to your destination. It even announces the names of exits and streets so you never need to take your eyes off the road.

The Garmin Lock™, anti-theft protection system uses GPS to lock the unit to a secure location of your choice.
